In this hands-on, skill-building class, students will explore kiln dynamics, learning how firing temperatures, atmosphere, and timing impact the final outcome of their pieces. We’ll introduce the pugmill and proper clay recycling techniques, giving students a deeper understanding of material management and studio practices.
As skills grow, so will the scale—students will work on larger, more complex projects, focusing on structure, design, and durability. We’ll also refine techniques such as wheel throwing, hand-building, and surface design while encouraging creativity and personal style.
What to Expect:
Deeper understanding of kiln firing and glaze results
Hands-on experience with clay processing using a pugmill
Guidance on building larger, more advanced pieces
Continued development of wheel and hand-building skills
A studio-style environment that encourages creativity and independence
This class is perfect for students ready to move beyond the basics and begin creating more intentional, technically sound, and expressive ceramic work.
